Team Effectiveness, Managing Meetings & More!

With 2018 now in full swing, the five core members of Blackstone Media’s Leadership Team finally found some time to sit down and strategize for the months ahead. But, with every new phase in a project or company, there must also be time set aside for reflection—looking back at the things that worked, didn’t work, and the things that could have been.

There’s a lot of that sort of looking back in the following collection of articles, but you’ll find that future-oriented optimism is even more present. So, check out what our Leadership Team had to share this week for a small peek into what lies ahead in the future!

1. 3 Steps Leaders Should Take Right Now to Build and Maintain Trust
“Whether it’s with customers or clients, trust is paramount to running an effective operation. This article approaches the ‘trust issue’ from an interesting angle: using content as a reinforcement tool. Currently, one of the biggest goals of our marketing team is to create the sort of content that provides true value to unique audiences. That’s why we talk so much about strategy and goals, and how we can make sure the content we produce as an agency always aligns with them.”
-Rebecca Brady, Chief Operating Officer

2. 3 Simple Questions You Need to Ask Yourself Before Every Meeting
“Unproductive meetings are the bane of every productive worker, so we’re always looking for ways to get the most out of our time together. One of the most efficient ways to do that is to make sure everyone who’s there needs to be there…and if you can’t answer these questions, you probably don’t need to be there!”
-Amber Herndon, Director of Marketing

3. With one simple tweet, Elon Musk shows a masterful lesson in leadership
“A valuable lesson to be learned here: no matter how busy you are, always find the time to listen to those who are most invested in your projects and aspirations.”
-Taylor Trusty, CEO

4. The Results of Google’s Team-Effectiveness Research Will Make You Rethink How You Build Teams
“It’s pretty well known that Google loves their data. Coincidentally, we also love our data here at Blackstone, so it should come as no surprise that we’re huge proponents of Google’s most secretive innermost workings! Fortunately, it feels like, as a whole, Blackstone fits neatly into most (if not all) of the five team-effectiveness factors listed in this article. I believe the main reason for that comes down to effective project management, along with the relatively small size of our company. That size allows for a lot more transparency, comfort, and personal investment in the daily workplace.”
-John Weber, Director of Products

5. Best Practices: Leadership for Small Agency Owners
“Though I’m reluctant to say I fully agree with all of these ‘best practices,’ I still found a lot of value in skimming through this article. With it being the start of a new year, it’s a great time to set new personal goals for the months ahead—everyone knows that. But it’s also important to reflect on the most essential elements of your profession to keep yourself in check. Over the years, I’ve found that spending a few hours each week reading through high-level articles like this are a great way to do that.”
-Travis Triplett, Director of Accounts

-Amber Herndon, Director of Marketing
